Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Top 5 Times Twitter Rooted for Zalebs in 2024

As much as Mzansi Twitter enjoys clowning on celebs like a dumpster fire circus, it does occasionally like to celebrate (and bask in) their achievements.

Throughout 2023, we’ve seen our favourite stars shining on both the local and international stage, and what better way to cap off the year than by highlighting their #winningmoments!

Take a look at the top five celebs who got the most love on Twitter/X in 2024:

5. Penny Ntuli Joins Jozi FM

After leaving her low-paying gig at Gagasi FM, radio personality Penny Ntuli proved in April that the grass is always greener on the other side when she joined Gauteng-based radio station, Jozi FM:

She made her debut on 2 April, and fans were impressed while also expressing their happiness for her:

4. Uncle Waffles meets Kelly Rowland

After rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ciara and SZA, it was only a matter of time before Kelly Rowland showed Uncle Waffles some love, too!

Back in February, while performing at SZA’s pre-Grammy Awards party in Los Angeles, California, the “SLS” hitmaker was thrown for a hot minute when she saw who came her way:

See that look on Waffles’ face? That’s pure happiness right there!

We love to see it, and so did the fans:

3. Tyla Wows Tweeps with “Late Show” Performance

Mic? On. Vocals? Stunning. Song? A vibe. Tyla? She ate that performance UP.

That’s how the tweeps felt after Tyla appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in April to perform her song, “ART”. As you imagine, they showed TONS of love for our gal on Twitter/X:

2. Tyla Wows Again at Victoria’s Secret Show

Six months later, Tyla once again owned EVERYTHING in sight when she performed at the Victoria’s Secret runway.

The Grammy award-winning vocalist performed a medley of her biggest songs at the famed lingerie brand showcase, all while serving viewers with an angelic visual bordering on the slay-tastically ethereal:

Indeed, they were raising their South African flags high, especially when supermodel (and fellow Saffa) Candice Swanepoel strutted her stuff while Tyla did her thing:

But when it was Tyla’s turn to sashay down the runway, though? Twitter/X were left collectively GAGGED:

1. Local Opera Singer Wins South Africa’s Heart

Innocent Masuku (not to be confused with “Yizo Yizo” actor, Innocent “Bobo” Masuku) is an opera singer hailing from Secunda, Mpumalanga. In April, the trained tenor showed off his talent in an episode of “Britain’s Got Talent”.

The 33-year-old’s rousing performance of “Caruso” – which was previously covered by the likes of Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti – wowed the judges and the audience.

Back in SA, incredibly proud folks – including then-Sports, Arts and Culture minister Zizi Kodwa – took to Twitter/X to heap praise on Masuku’s incredible vocals, with some playfully calling him a bonafide Italian:
